Commercial vs Personal Auto Insurance

With all of the details that go into an insurance policy, it can sometimes become confusing when determining if you need commercial automobile insurance for your business or if your personal automobile policy has you covered.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself about your vehicle usage.
How do you use your vehicle in your business?
This plays a large part in finding the right coverage. Do you have employees driving your vehicles? Are you carrying heavy equipment or towing a trailer? Is the primary purpose of the vehicle to provide a service? Are you transporting goods? Running a delivery service? Are you carrying tools or supplies?
If you found that you answered yes to one or more of these questions, you may want to discuss a comprehensive commercial auto policy with an agent to make sure you have the necessary coverage to protect your business.
Personal Use
Personal automobile insurance is designed to cover the needs of families and individuals, not businesses with higher liability issues. Personal auto coverage may cover personal liability issues if there’s an accident that results in medical expenses and/or repairing or replacing damaged vehicles.
If you only use your personal vehicle to commute to and from your place of business, then the chances are good that personal auto insurance may be what you need. However, if you use vehicles for a variety of business purposes, you may need to consider a business auto policy.
If you have any doubts at all about whether your cars, trucks, or other types of vehicles may be considered business use, you should get clarification. We are more than happy to schedule a time to talk!
