2019 Dutchess-Ulster Go Red For Women Luncheon

Go Red For Women BetterU Challenge
Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 health threat for women. In the U.S., one in three women
will die of cardiovascular disease. Yet research shows even small changes can result in big
improvements that put women on the path to healthier hearts and better, longer lives. That’s why
the American Heart Association created the Go Red for Women Bett erU Challenge, a program to
inspire and empower women to take charge of their heart health. The BetterU Challenge delivers
the resources and support women need to start living heart-healthy.
The BetterU Challenge is a 12-week program to help women live a more heart-healthy life. This program includes education women on how to make healthy lifestyle choices to help prevent heart disease and stroke by giving them the tools and motivation with the goal to bring blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar into healthy ranges. This includes a gym membership as well as personal and group training. The group began with a baseline medical evaluation and receives nutrition coaching as well as heart-healthy seminars throughout the program.
Our very own Susan Pagones was chosen as one this year’s participants. To Susan, this is much more than another program. “21 years ago my life forever changed when my mother passed suddenly at the age of 57 due to heart disease” said Susan. ” As I am getting closer to this age I realized I need to get heart healthy so I jumped at the chance to become a BetterU participant. Thank you to all the sponsors who have made this possible and special thank you to this year’s Chair and friend, Denise VanBuren. This is a fantastic program for me and my family.”
The BetterU Program ends with a celebration at the Go For Red Women’s Luncheon. This year the luncheon will take place on Friday, November 8th beginning at 10:30 at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie and includes Keynote Speaker Mara Schiavocampo, Special Correspondent for the Dr. Oz show and author.
We would love for you to join us to show Susan our support.
